PROA welcomes state’s anti-corruption drive, demands reforms
Ferozepur, March 25, 2025: The Punjab Revenue Officers Association (PROA) has expressed strong support for the state government's initiative to eliminate corruption in the Revenue Department, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and ACS (R) Anurag Verma.
In a statement, PROA executive members Lachhman Singh,President and Maninder Singh General Secretary welcomed the government's decision to assign registration duties under the Registration Act to SDMs, Senior Assistants, and Kanungos instead of revenue officers. They emphasized that this move would allow revenue officers to focus on core revenue tasks, thereby improving the department’s efficiency.
However, the PROA also put forth several demands, including the establishment of deed writer counters at tehsils/sub-tehsils via Sewa Kendras, standardized registration templates, and biometric verification for sellers in registration offices. They also advocated for digital technology integration in Girdawari surveys to ensure transparency in land and crop identification.
The association raised concerns about the privatization of key revenue reforms, warning that outsourcing such responsibilities could lead to exploitation of the public. They urged the government to ensure that policy decisions are executed by competent and experienced revenue officers to prevent potential misuse.
Addressing the shortage of revenue officers, Suhcharan Singh Channik, Tehsildar, President, PROA also urged the government to appoint Tehsildars/Naib Tehsildars from within the department rather than hiring officials from other services, ensuring experienced officers handle critical revenue operations.
