Holiday Breaking: School Holidays Extended in Punjab
Mohali, December 31, 2025 – Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on social media today that, on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, all schools in the state will remain closed until January 7, 2026, due to intensifying cold weather and dense fog.
The decision prioritizes the health and safety of students and staff. It applies to all government, aided, recognized, and private schools across Punjab.
Schools will reopen as usual from Wednesday, January 8, 2026.
This extension comes as northern India grapples with a harsh winter spell, with visibility plummeting and temperatures dropping sharply – making early morning commutes particularly risky for young children.
Parents and school authorities have welcomed the move, emphasizing child safety during extreme weather conditions.
