MP Charanjit Channi promoting drug traffickers by revealing drug hotspots: Baltej Pannu

Chandigarh, February 7, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Friday launched a sharp attack on former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi, accusing him of indirectly promoting drug traffickers by publicly revealing alleged drug hotspots on social media.
Pannu said that releasing videos pointing out locations where “chitta” is allegedly available is a highly irresponsible and condemnable act by a sitting Member of Parliament. “A public representative holding a constitutional position is expected to help curb the drug menace, not advertise places where drugs are being sold,” he said.
He alleged that drugs were allowed to flourish in Punjab during the 10-year Akali-BJP regime as well as under successive Congress governments led by Captain Amarinder Singh and Charanjit Channi. According to Pannu, no concrete or effective steps were taken during those periods to eradicate drugs from the state.
Pannu said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has launched an aggressive ‘War Against Drugs’, which has created panic among drug traffickers. “At a time when the government’s crackdown is yielding results, leaders like Channi are releasing videos and publicly identifying drug locations, which amounts to sabotaging the anti-drug campaign and aiding smugglers,” he alleged.
Questioning Channi’s intent, Pannu said that if any leader has credible information about drug activity, it should be shared directly with the police instead of being broadcast on social media. “Is Channi now acting as a brand ambassador for drug sellers?” he asked.
Pannu said the people of Punjab are closely watching how certain Congress leaders are allegedly attempting to create hurdles instead of supporting the fight against drugs. He demanded that the Congress leadership clarify whether it stands with the Punjab government’s anti-drug drive or with drug traffickers.
He asserted that such political tactics would not deter the Mann government from its mission. “The AAP government is fully committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab and will continue this fight until the menace is eliminated from its roots,” Pannu said.
