Chandigarh, February 7, 2026: The Punjab School Education Department on Saturday organised the second Statewide School-Level Parents’ Workshop across all government schools in the state, witnessing the participation of over 17.5 lakh parents—an unprecedented exercise in community engagement and participatory governance.
Sharing details of the initiative, Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the mega workshop was organised simultaneously across government schools, setting a new benchmark for parental involvement in Punjab’s education system.
He said the initiative, spearheaded by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), reflects the commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government towards collaborative and inclusive learning.
“This initiative reinforces our resolve to further elevate education standards under Punjab Sikhya Kranti by making parents active partners in the learning journey of their children,” the Minister said.
Harjot Singh Bains himself led a workshop at Government High School, Manakpur (Nangal) in the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, where he interacted with parents and students. Explaining the objectives, he said the workshop aimed to equip parents with practical strategies for stress-free exam preparation, help them build children’s confidence through positive reinforcement, and raise awareness on drug abuse prevention under the state’s Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, with emphasis on early detection, prevention and support.
He added that the initiative saw widespread participation from the political leadership across the state. Cabinet Ministers Dr. Baljit Kaur, Lalchand Kataruchak, Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Hardeep Singh Mundian, along with over 40 MLAs, participated in workshops in their respective constituencies, demonstrating a unified commitment to strengthening the education system and promoting community engagement.
Referring to the continuity of the programme, the Education Minister said that building on the success of the first statewide workshop held in December 2025, the second edition has further strengthened the partnership between schools and families, empowering parents with insights into their children’s academic progress and effective ways to support learning at home.
Detailing the administrative preparedness, he said that more than 3,000 senior officers, including Directors and District Education Officers (DEOs), were deployed to monitor and support the programme. Additionally, around 40,000 teachers were trained in advance to facilitate the workshops, ensuring smooth execution and meaningful engagement.
Highlighting the broader vision, Harjot Singh Bains said the workshop is a cornerstone of the government’s mission to build strong school-parent collaboration, create supportive home environments, and ensure not only academic success but also the holistic well-being of every child.
