CM Health Insurance scheme proving a lifeline for Punjab’s poor: Kuldeep Dhaliwal

Amritsar (Punjab), February 7, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab’s Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Saturday said that the promises made by the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government are now clearly visible on the ground, with the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme emerging as a lifeline for lakhs of families across the state.
Addressing a press conference here along with AAP leaders Prabhbir Singh Brar and Gurpratap Singh Sandhu, Dhaliwal said that under the scheme, nearly 65 lakh families in Punjab have been guaranteed cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh, providing major relief to poor and middle-class households.
He said that the effective implementation of the scheme reflects the visionary leadership of AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who have prioritised healthcare as a basic right rather than a privilege.
Highlighting a real-life example, Dhaliwal cited the case of Sulakhan Singh, a daily-wage labourer from village Gurdas Nangal in Gurdaspur district, who was diagnosed with a serious heart ailment. The estimated cost of treatment was around ₹3 lakh, an amount beyond the family’s means. However, under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, his health card was prepared within a day, following which he underwent a successful heart operation and stent implantation at a private hospital in Amritsar without spending a single rupee.
“Sulakhan Singh returning home healthy is a fitting reply to those who dismiss our policies as mere rhetoric,” Dhaliwal said.
The AAP leader said that strengthening education and healthcare infrastructure remains the core agenda of the Punjab government. He said that previous regimes forced poor families into debt or left them to suffer due to unaffordable medical treatment, whereas the Mann government has ensured that quality healthcare reaches every citizen.
He further clarified that hospitals empanelled under the scheme are being regularly monitored to ensure that beneficiaries face no inconvenience and that no hospital is allowed to demand extra payment from cardholders.
Taking a dig at the opposition, Dhaliwal said that parties which ruled Punjab for decades without addressing basic needs are now unable to accept the positive transformation underway. He appealed to the public to get their health cards made under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme and avail themselves of the benefits of this landmark welfare initiative.
