New Delhi, May 12, 2026: In a major step to curb rising cyber fraud and “digital arrest” scams, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a new chatbot service named “ABHAY” to help citizens verify whether notices issued in the name of the agency are genuine or fake.
The initiative aims to protect people from fraudsters who impersonate CBI officials and send fake legal notices, summons or arrest-related communications to extort money or create panic.
According to the CBI, the ABHAY chatbot enables real-time verification of notices received in the agency’s name through a simple online process.
Citizens can access the service by visiting the official CBI website and clicking on the ABHAY logo available on the homepage.

To use the service, users need to complete OTP verification through their mobile number and upload a scanned copy of the notice they have received. The chatbot then informs the user whether the document appears genuine or potentially fraudulent.
