Chandigarh, May 12, 2026: Anil Vij, Haryana Transport Minister, on Tuesday announced that the state government will soon add 1,000 new buses to the Haryana Roadways fleet, including 500 electric buses and 500 ordinary buses, to modernize public transport and improve passenger convenience.
Speaking to mediapersons in Chandigarh, Vij said the initiative aims to make Haryana’s transport system safer, environmentally friendly and technology-driven.
The minister said all Haryana Roadways buses will soon be equipped with an advanced tracking system to enable real-time monitoring. Digital display boards, similar to those used at airports, will also be installed at bus stands to provide passengers with accurate information regarding bus arrivals and departures.
Vij further informed that the department is developing a modern mobile application through which commuters will be able to check live bus locations, schedules and routes directly on their phones, helping them plan their travel more efficiently.
In a major move towards accountability, the Transport Minister said the new hi-tech system will also monitor whether buses are operating on their designated routes. If any driver diverts a bus or skips an assigned bus stand, the system will instantly generate an alert and seek an explanation from the concerned driver.
He said the government has already reviewed the trial of the system and it will soon be launched as a pilot project in one district before being implemented across Haryana in phases.
Vij added that the Haryana Government is continuously working to integrate modern technology into transport services to ensure safer, smarter and more convenient travel for passengers across the state.
