Chandigarh, July 4, 2026: Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Saturday ruled himself out of the race for the party’s chief ministerial face ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, saying the decision would be taken solely by the Congress high command.
Responding to questions over demands from some leaders to project former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the party’s CM face, Warring said he has no authority to make such an announcement.

“I have no right to declare the Chief Ministerial face. That decision rests entirely with Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge,” Warring said while speaking to the media.
Making his position clear, the Punjab Congress chief said he is not a contender for the top post.
“Raja Warring is not in the race to become Chief Minister. My only goal is to bring the Congress back to power in Punjab,” he said.
Warring added that he would fully support whoever is chosen by the party leadership.
“Whoever the high command selects as the Chief Ministerial face, I will stand firmly behind that person,” he said.
