Punjab being run by Delhi leaders, AAP failed on Medical Colleges, development promises: Kewal Singh Dhillon

Chandigarh, July 4, 2027: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of misleading the people with “false promises” on development, medical colleges and welfare schemes, while alleging that Punjab is being run by “defeated leaders from Delhi.”
Reacting to the Punjab government’s announcement of a new college at Dhanaula in Barnala district, Dhillon termed it a “desperate attempt” by the Bhagwant Mann-led government to regain public confidence.
He alleged that the AAP government had failed to fulfil its promise of establishing 16 new medical colleges, announced in the 2022-23 state budget.
“Four years have passed, but not a single medical college has become a reality. At the Mastuana site, where the foundation stone was laid, paddy is now growing and the land has been reclaimed by the Gurdwara Sahib,” Dhillon claimed.
He further alleged that the proposed super multi-speciality hospital at Handiaya had been scrapped, while the nursing college at Thikriwala remains incomplete. He claimed that the latest announcement regarding a college at Dhanaula was another unfulfilled promise.
The BJP leader also criticised the government’s performance on infrastructure, claiming that more than half of Punjab’s 37 National Highway projects are running behind schedule, with four projects having come to a complete halt.
“This government is good at laying foundation stones but poor at completing projects,” he alleged.
Dhillon further claimed that the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana was implemented after a delay of over four years and with restrictive conditions. He also alleged that employees’ dearness allowance arrears, pensioners’ dues and benefits under the Shagun Scheme remain pending, while the government continues to spend crores of rupees on advertisements.
Raising concerns over the state’s finances, Dhillon claimed Punjab’s debt, which stood at around ₹2.8 lakh crore in 2022, could rise to ₹5 lakh crore by 2027. He alleged that the state would spend nearly ₹42,000 crore on loan repayments and interest during 2026-27, without corresponding improvements in development.
“This government is not building Punjab; it is mortgaging its future,” he said.
Targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Dhillon alleged that the state was effectively being run by AAP leaders from Delhi.
“Bhagwant Mann is only occupying the Chief Minister’s chair. Punjab is being governed by defeated leaders sent from Delhi. Even today, the Chief Minister is missing while scam-tainted Delhi leaders are taking decisions for Punjab,” he alleged.
Dhillon asserted that the people of Punjab would reject what he described as a “Delhi-controlled government” in the 2027 Assembly elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party has not yet responded to the allegations made by the Punjab BJP chief.
