Padma Awards: Online nominations open until July 31

Chandigarh, July 4, 2026- Nominations and recommendations have been invited for the Padma Awards to be announced on Republic Day 2027. Applications for the awards may be submitted online through the National Awards Portal until July 31. The awards include the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
Sharing more information, an official spokesperson said that nominators are required to submit a citation of up to 800 words clearly outlining the nominee’s exceptional achievements and distinguished contributions in the relevant field or discipline.
The spokesperson said that the Padma Awards comprising the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are among India’s highest civilian honours. Instituted in 1954, these awards are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day.
They recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements and service across a wide range of fields, including art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil services, trade, and industry.
The awards are open to all persons without distinction of race, occupation, position, or gender. However, government employees serving in public sector undertakings are not eligible for the Padma Awards, except doctors and scientists.
