Breaking: Harjit Singh Grewal appointed as National Minorities Commission Chairman

New Delhi, July 17, 2026: The Central Government has appointed Harjit Singh Grewal as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) for a term of three years.
An official appointment letter has been issued confirming the appointment. Grewal succeeds Iqbal Singh Lalpura, who previously served as the Chairperson of the Commission.
The Centre has also appointed S. Munawari Begum as the Vice-Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, while Glen E. Souza Ticklo has been nominated as a Member of the Commission.
The appointments have been made by the Central Government to strengthen the functioning of the statutory body, which is responsible for safeguarding the rights and interests of minority communities in the country.
The National Commission for Minorities works to monitor the implementation of constitutional and legal safeguards for notified minority communities and advises the government on issues concerning their welfare and development.
