Jalandhar (Punjab, July 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, describing it as a "kattar beimaan party" (thoroughly dishonest party) and accusing it of corruption, financial mismanagement, deteriorating law and order, and failing to utilise Central funds meant for the state's development.
Addressing a public rally in Jalandhar, Modi alleged that despite the Centre providing substantial financial assistance to Punjab over the past 12 years, the funds had not been effectively utilised for key infrastructure projects such as canals, mandis and other public works.
"The money sent by the Centre should have been used for development, but it has not been utilised properly. Instead, the Punjab government has taken loans in the state's name, and a large portion of the budget is now being spent on repaying interest," the Prime Minister said.
Stepping up his attack, Modi alleged that corruption had become the hallmark of the AAP government, referring to cases involving former minister Vijay Singla and other legislators accused of accepting bribes.
"From former minister Vijay Singla to MLAs being caught accepting bribes, corruption has become the identity of the AAP government in Punjab," he said.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over the law and order situation in the state, alleging that incidents of gang violence, extortion and attacks on police establishments had created an atmosphere of fear.
"It has become difficult for industrialists to do business in Punjab due to extortion calls. Even police stations are not safe, and attacks on them are taking place," Modi alleged.
He further accused the state government of failing to curb drug trafficking and claimed that Punjab's youth were being pushed towards substance abuse.
Modi also alleged that the AAP government had failed to fulfil its promises to farmers and women while burdening the state with mounting debt.
