Jalandhar (Punjab), July 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at a public rally in Jalandhar on Friday wearing a green turban, a move that drew widespread political attention during his visit to Punjab.
The green turban, often associated with Punjab’s agrarian identity and the farming community, became a talking point as the Prime Minister took the stage before addressing the gathering.
During his speech, Modi criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government over issues including law and order, drug trafficking, extortion, and governance.
While he did not explicitly refer to the colour of his turban in his address, the choice of attire sparked political discussions in the state.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹5,470 crore and flagged off the Amritsar–Varanasi Express during his visit.
Political observers noted that the Prime Minister’s decision to wear a green turban was symbolic, as green is traditionally linked with Punjab’s agricultural heritage and is widely associated with the farming community.
The visit was marked by elaborate security arrangements and was attended by several senior BJP leaders and party workers.
