Jalandhar (Punjab), July 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleging that corruption, extortion and abuse of power had become the party's defining characteristics.
Addressing a public rally in Jalandhar, Modi referred to a recent court verdict in Gujarat, claiming that an AAP MLA had been sentenced to seven years' imprisonment in a case involving assault on government officials and extortion.
"Extortion and illegal occupation have become trademarks of their political system," the Prime Minister said, alleging that several party leaders were facing criminal cases and were out on bail.
Turning his focus to Punjab, Modi accused the AAP government of institutionalising corruption. He referred to the dismissal of former Punjab Health Minister Vijay Singla over bribery allegations and claimed that another minister was facing serious money laundering charges.
"The Health Minister appointed by them had to be removed over bribery allegations. Their MLAs are being caught red-handed accepting bribes," Modi said.
The Prime Minister further alleged that if one were to count such cases, "very few people" in the AAP government and the party would be left without any allegations against them.
Modi made the remarks while addressing a public rally after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Jalandhar.
