Breaking: Roop Kaur appears at Sri Akal Takht Secretariat, submits complaint
Babushahi Bureau
Amritsar (Punjab), October 9, 2026: Roop Kaur Sandhu on Friday submitted a written representation addressed to Sri Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj at the secretariat, alleging the involvement of several individuals, including people associated with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Panthic figures and Akali leaders, in alleged offences.
Kaur claimed that her letter mentioned the names, positions and alleged acts of the individuals concerned. However, she declined to disclose their identities publicly, citing concerns over the safety of herself and other women who she said were affected by the matter.
Speaking to the media after submitting the representation, Kaur said she had received an acknowledgment of the letter and possessed evidence relating to the allegations. She claimed that four to five political or religious leaders had been named in the representation, while information about several other individuals was also available with her.
Kaur said she had not submitted a pen drive or other supporting material on Friday. She explained that the material contained sensitive information concerning women and that she wanted assurances regarding data security and the protection of victims’ identities before handing over the evidence.
She further alleged that some women were being discouraged from coming forward and were receiving calls from unknown numbers. She also referred to complaints involving alleged rape and obscene acts. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Akal Takht Secretariat says no evidence submitted yet
Jaskaran Singh, personal assistant to the Akal Takht Jathedar, clarified that only a written representation had been received at the secretariat and no pen drive or substantive evidence had been submitted.
He said no appointment had been scheduled for Kaur to meet the Jathedar on Friday. However, since the secretariat office was open, her letter was accepted.
According to Singh, when Kaur was asked to provide evidence, she conveyed that the women concerned wanted to meet the Jathedar personally and present the material directly.
Singh said Kaur had also been connected with the Jathedar over the phone. The secretariat would inform her about a meeting once the Jathedar allotted time for it.
On the allegations of threats, Singh said the individuals concerned had been advised to submit a written complaint to the police administration if they were receiving threats.
He added that any further action by Sri Akal Takht Sahib would be taken in accordance with established procedures. The next steps in the matter would become clear after the evidence was formally presented.
