UK officials granted access to Johal but not in privacy: Defence counsel
Ludhiana, November 25, 2017: The Punjab police granted access to the UK High Commission team to Jagtar Singh Johal but not “in privacy” as ordered by the court, claimed defence counsel Jaspal Singh Manjhpur.
“Two senior police officials were present in the room during the meeting between the representatives of the UK High Commission and Johal despite the court allowing the request for privacy,” Manjhpur told babushahi.com on Saturday.
Two representatives of the High Commission, however, were allowed to meet Johal here on Saturday between 11.30 am and 12.15 am.
“The violation of the court's order will be brought to its notice at next hearing,” added Manjhpur.
The court of duty magistrate had allowed the High Commission team led by Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre to meet Johal on November 24 but the same could not materialize due to “technical reasons”.
Though Ayre reportedly returned but two other representatives Pallavi Jairath and Julie Mitchell stayed back and met Johal on Saturday.
