Rs 17 crore transformation underway at Ludhiana's Girls School of Eminence: MP Arora briefed on historic upgrade

Ludhiana (Punjab), April 15, 2025: A landmark renovation and upgradation project is currently transforming the Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Girls School of Eminence, located near Bharat Nagar Chowk, Ludhiana.
The project, backed by a record-breaking Rs. 17 crore grant, marks the highest-ever allocation for a government school in Punjab.
Renowned poet and Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Public Works Department, Sehajpreet Singh Mangat, met with Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjeev Arora to provide an update on the progress.
The school, which serves nearly 2,000 students and employs around 90 teachers, has long been considered a flagship institution in the Ludhiana district.
Originally declared a School of Eminence through the efforts of the late MLA Gurpreet Gogi, the project received a significant boost under the stewardship of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.His personal involvement led to the sanctioning of the unprecedented Rs.17 crore budget for comprehensive upgrades.
The ongoing development includes the full-scale renovation of the existing structure, upgraded bathroom facilities, a new sewerage and drinking water system, and modernized electrical infrastructure.
A cutting-edge indoor sports complex is under construction, alongside a new seminar hall and state-of-the-art science laboratories.
A welcoming reception area, additional classrooms, and brand-new basketball and badminton courts are also being added. Furthermore, tiered seating is being built along the main ground, enhancing the overall campus environment for students.
During the site briefing, MP Arora emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and urged that the project be completed on schedule.
In a heartwarming gesture, Mangat also presented the MP with a collection of his six published books, highlighting his dual contributions to both infrastructure and literature.
