Special Awareness Event Held at PIMS Jalandhar Under ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ Anti-Drug Campaign
Jalandhar, July 17, 2025 –
A special event was organized at Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, as part of the Punjab Government’s anti-drug initiative ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ (War Against Drugs).
The program was graced by Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, Dhanpreet Kaur (IPS), along with senior police officials. Key dignitaries from PIMS present on the occasion included Dr. Rajiv Arora (Director Principal), Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh (Executive Chairperson), and Dr. H.K. Cheema (Dean Academics), along with heads of departments and faculty members.
A large number of medical and nursing students enthusiastically participated in the event. Students of DAV College of Nursing delivered a powerful role-play performance, highlighting the adverse effects of drug addiction. Winners of the poster-making and reel-making competitions were also felicitated by the Police Commissioner for their creative contributions to the awareness drive.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur underlined the strong measures being taken by the Punjab Police and state government to combat drug abuse. She urged mental health professionals, medical faculty, and youth to play an active role in spreading awareness and supporting de-addiction initiatives. She appealed to the students to act as agents of change and ambassadors of the anti-drug movement, encouraging them to raise their voices against the menace of substance abuse.
