Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Holds High-Level Meeting for Flood Preparations

Ludhiana, July 8, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain chaired a high-level meeting today with officials from various departments to review preparations for potential flooding during the monsoon season.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Amarjit Bains, Shikha Bhagat, Kulpreet Singh, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and representatives from departments including Drainage, Municipal Corporation, NDRF, PSPCL, Education, Public Works, Health, Rural Development and Panchayats, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Forest, Water Supply and Sanitation, Police, and other relevant agencies.
The Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed review of flood protection measures, including the condition of embankments, drainage systems, and flood barriers. He directed officials to ensure that water pumps, generators, rescue boats, and other essential equipment are operational and deployed at flood-prone locations. He announced that 24x7 control rooms have been established at the district and sub-divisional levels to monitor flood-related situations and ensure timely responses.
Instructions were issued to set up temporary shelters for citizens displaced by floods, ensuring the availability of food, drinking water, sanitation facilities, and bedding. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized seamless inter-departmental coordination, directing regular briefings and real-time updates on flood risks and measures. A unified communication protocol has been established to ensure accurate and timely information flow during emergencies.
SDMs and other departmental officers were instructed to conduct on-site inspections of flood-prone areas to assess ground conditions and take necessary actions. The Health Department was directed to prepare medical teams, ambulances, medicines, first-aid kits, and vaccines to address waterborne diseases and other flood-related health risks.
Considering the impact of floods on rural life and livelihoods, the Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Departments were tasked with preparing evacuation plans for livestock and ensuring fodder availability at relief centers. The Water Supply and Sanitation Department was directed to collaborate with meteorological agencies to obtain weather forecasts and issue immediate alerts to residents in at-risk areas via SMS, radio, and public announcements.
PSPCL was assigned the responsibility of securing the power supply during floods and arranging backup power for critical facilities like hospitals and control rooms. The Public Works Department was instructed to inspect bridges and roads to ensure their sturdiness and maintain connectivity during floods.
Finally, the Water Supply and Sanitation Department was directed to ensure a continuous supply of safe and potable water for residents during flood situations.
