SAS Nagar, 2 October 2025:
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Mohali observed the United Nations International Day of Older Persons under the theme “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights.”
The institute showcased its Home Visiting Program for Elderly with Complex Needs, launched in December 2024 with guidance from Niharika Suchak (USA), through which an interdisciplinary team led by Esha Arora visits older patients at home every Saturday for holistic medical, nursing, and social support.
Amrit Virk, Professor and Head of Community Medicine, is leading the development of an interprofessional geriatric care module to build capacity among healthcare workers, aligning the initiative with the National Framework for Elderly Care and positioning AIMS Mohali among early adopters of structured community-based services.
Ashish Goel, Professor and Head of Medicine and immediate past President of the Geriatric Society of India, underlined the need to popularize geriatric medicine, while Director Principal Bhavneet Bharti emphasized AIMS Mohali’s “4M approach” — Mobility, Mentation, Medication, and what Matters most — to uphold dignity and well-being for older persons.
Reiterating the institute’s vision, Bhavneet Bharti said the goal is to make older persons not just recipients of care but active partners and agents of change in society.
