Come Forward and Join Politics for Bringing Much Needed Change in Decision-Making Process: CM to Girls
Ludhiana, March 25, 2025:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday exhorted the girls to come forward and participate in politics to become active partners in the decision-making policy mechanism and bring the necessary and much-needed change in society.
Addressing the gathering during the annual convocation of the Government College for Girls, the Chief Minister said that girls have outnumbered boys in many fields, but politics remains an exception. He said that politics has long been considered a male-dominated arena, but now it is time for women to excel in this field too. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that women's participation in politics is essential to create an egalitarian society and benefit the state and society at large.
The Chief Minister stated that increasing women's representation will strengthen the foundations of democracy at the grassroots level. He urged women to exercise their voting rights responsibly to ensure that their votes contribute to electing capable leaders in the state assembly and Parliament. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that such efforts would lead Punjab towards becoming a frontrunner in progress and prosperity.
He expressed pride and satisfaction over the success of girls in various fields. He said that teachers find immense joy when their students achieve milestones. Extending his best wishes to the students for a bright future, Bhagwant Singh Mann praised Principal Suman Lata for her role in nurturing young talent.
The Chief Minister highlighted his government's commitment to empowering women by appointing eight women officers as Deputy Commissioners, six women as Senior Superintendents of Police, and 18 women as ADCs — the highest number of female appointments on these prestigious posts by any government.
Bhagwant Singh Mann also stated that his government has provided over 52,000 jobs to youth within 36 months of assuming office, all on the basis of merit without any corruption or nepotism. He expressed hope that these young professionals would contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the state.
Encouraging the girls to take inspiration from stories of people who have risen from humble backgrounds to achieve greatness, the Chief Minister assured them of the state's support in their endeavors. Using the metaphor of a bouquet of diverse flowers, he said that it is the variety that makes it beautiful, just as diversity strengthens society.
He further acknowledged Punjab's legacy as the nation's food bowl and sword arm, known for its people’s courage, resilience, and spirit of enterprise. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the land of Punjab is marked by the footprints of great Gurus, saints, and martyrs, inspiring people to stand against tyranny and injustice.
The Chief Minister also took a jibe at traditional political parties, stating that they are envious of him because he comes from a common family and works tirelessly for the welfare of the people. He added that these leaders had long considered themselves entitled to rule, but the people have now rejected their propaganda.
Recalling his association with Ludhiana since the early 1990s during his struggling days as an artist, Bhagwant Singh Mann advised the girls to never lose heart in the face of failures, as they are stepping stones to success. He encouraged them to remain humble and work hard to achieve their goals through dedication and perseverance.
