Chandigarh, July 4, 2026: The Punjab Government has distributed more than 21.29 lakh 'Meri Rasoi' ration kits to eligible families across the state under its flagship food security initiative, with Ludhiana emerging as the highest beneficiary district, followed by Patiala and Sangrur.
The state aims to provide ration kits to 40.48 lakh eligible families every quarter (three months) as part of its efforts to strengthen nutritional security for economically weaker households.
According to an official statement, the distribution drive is being carried out on a mission mode under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak. Around 80,000 to 85,000 ration kits are being dispatched daily from designated distribution centres across Punjab.
Each ration kit has been designed to meet the essential monthly dietary needs of a household. It contains 2 kg of lentils, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and 1 litre of mustard oil. These kits are being provided in addition to the wheat supplied to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
The kits are assembled by Markfed, while the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is overseeing their distribution across the state.

The government said the initiative is intended to supplement staple grains with protein-rich food items, cooking oil and essential spices to improve the nutritional intake of beneficiary families.
Officials said the distribution process is being closely monitored to ensure transparency, prevent duplication and guarantee last-mile delivery. District administrations, along with the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, are coordinating the implementation of the scheme.
The state government said the 'Meri Rasoi' initiative complements the existing NFSA food grain programme and reflects its commitment to strengthening food and nutritional security by ensuring that no eligible family is left behind.
