Chandigarh, July 4, 2026: Punjab Government-led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has set up a dedicated toll-free helpline 1800-180-2202 and appointed a nodal officer to tackle milk adulteration and provide guidance on milk quality under “Shudh Dudh, Tandarust Punjab” campaign.
Sharing the details of the drive, Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the Dairy Development Department tested 6000 milk samples in 160 camps from 1 April 2026 to till date.
To take testing to doorsteps, 4 mobile laboratory vans are already operational and 5 more are being added, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said, while adding that routine testing is also conducted at District Deputy Director’s offices from 9 am to 5 pm across Punjab.
In collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, the department has procured and distributed 5000 milk adulteration detection portable kits to District Dairy Development o
Offices, 500 kits to Veterinary Polyclinics of Animal Husbandry Department and awareness camp sites. These kits enable on-the-spot testing for fat, SNF, protein and six common adulterants including urea, starch and hydrogen peroxide, allowing officials and farmers to check milk quality instantly during camps and field visits. This reduces dependence on central labs and speeds up action against adulterators.
S. Khudian emphasised, “Adulterated milk compromises consumer health and hits the income of honest dairy farmers. To counter this, we have deployed mobile labs, distributed instant testing kits and launched a toll-free number for direct public feedback to safeguard quality at every stage.”
Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Mr. Rahul Bhandari said citizens can now get milk samples tested free of cost at all District Deputy Directors’ offices. In case of any inquiry people may contact Mandeep Singh State Nodal Officer at 98784-41386 and 0172-5027285.
He added that the State Government has also launched a statewide intensive awareness campaign under ‘Shudh Dudh, Tandarust Punjab’ to educate consumers about their right to safe & pure milk and to curb adulteration.
