Malerkotla, January 25,2019: Accused in Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu alias Jassi murder case, mother Malkiat Kaur and maternal uncle Surjit Singh Badesha were on Friday morning produced before Malerkotla court by Amargarh police in court no.2 of Justice Harpreet Singh Simak. The court sent the both to police custody for four days . The duo were extradited from Canada on Thursday after their involvement in the murder of Jassi.
Lawyer Vikas Singla represented state government , advocate Ashwani Chaudary was present on the behalf of Jassi's husband Sukhwinder Singh Mithu while advocate Simrandeep Singh Sandhu was the defendant for the accused.
Police custody for seven days was demanded for the accused but the court granted it for four days only. The counsel on the behalf of Mithu said that the poilce custody was required to know about the details of money routing for contract killing of Jassi. Also, the details of previous passports of accused duo were required.
However, the counsel for defendants, Advocate Sandhu said that since the Supreme Court had already declared Darshan Singh innocent, the one behind money routing for contract killing, there was no question on money routing now."The accused should have been sent directly to the judicial custody as the details of the passports could have been obtained via Canada embassy", said Sandhu.
"But we had demanded the permission for the counsel to be present during the questioning of the accused in order to keep a check that no coercive methods are used", said Sandhu. The court has though rejected the request of the counsel to be present during the questioning, has granted them permission to meet the accused whenever needed. In case the counsel finds anything wrong they can report the matter to the court.
