Jassi Honour Killing: Supplementary chargesheet filed, trail to start now
Malerkotla, March 31, 2019: The maternal uncle of murdered Canadian woman Jaswinder Kaur Jassi had allegedly promised to marry his son in Canada to the daughter of another Punjab-based key accused in lieu of Jassi’s murder.
The fact has come to light during the police investigation of the case, according to police sources. This fact which the police already had put on the record during its earlier trial against Darshan Singh ,along with some new aspects of the case are likely to be presented during the trial going to start soon in the court against Jassi's mother Malkit Kaur and her uncle Surjit Singh Badesha.
Although Supreme Court of India, overruling the lower court verdict, ultimately, acquitted Darshan Singh in 2015, giving him "the benefit of the doubt" because the telephone used to orchestrate the killing "was not under his exclusive control..His brother also had access to it." But the above mentioned fact of Darshan Singh and Surjit Badesha becoming relatives is well established. Police claim that it is very solid case against both accused ( mother and uncle ) but the outcome will depend upon the witnesses and trial court's verdict.
According to Babushahhi.com sources, Sangrur Police has filed supplementary chargesheet in the case before the court of JMIC Malerkotla on March 29, 2019.
It is expected that the Malerkotla Court will refer the case to the Sessions Court Sangrur for trial proceedings.
Jassi’s Canada-based uncle and mother are going to face trial in Punjab after their extradition from Canada in January 2019. Both are now lodged in Sangrur jail.
The police, according to sources, will be corroborating the sequence of events which have already come to the light or verified during investigation and interrogation of the culprits of the case.
The Police maintained that Badesha had contacted Darshan Singh of village Kaunke Kalan in Punjab to carry out supari killing of Jassi who had married an auto driver Sukhwinder Singh Mithu against family wishes during her visit to India.
According to prosecution story , after his arrest, the accused Darshan Singh told the police during investigation that he had met Badesha in 1998-99 and was given Rs 4 lakh by him before flying back to Canada in 2000 to contact hired killers to eliminate Jassi and her husband Mithu.
Badesha had also allegedly promised to take Darshan Singh’s daughter to Canada after her marriage with his son. Badesha kept his promise after Jassi was murdered, the investigation revealed.
