Amritsar (Punjab), May 26, 2025: Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, has registered its highest-ever passenger traffic in a financial year, handling 3.54 million passengers in FY2024–25, according to data released by the Airport Authority of India and analyzed by the FlyAmritsar Initiative.
March 2025 alone saw the airport handle 343,384 passengers—the highest monthly total in its history—surpassing the previous record set in December 2024.
“This is a proud moment for the region,” said Sameep Singh Gumtala, Global Convener of the FlyAmritsar Initiative, highlighting the airport’s growing role as a major domestic and international hub.
The March figures reflect an 8.5% increase over March 2024, with international traffic up by 12.8% and domestic traffic rising 6.6%.
Interestingly, this growth came even as domestic aircraft movements dropped by 3.8%, indicating improved operational efficiency and higher passenger loads per flight. The airport now serves 10 international destinations, including Dubai, London, Birmingham, and Singapore.
Despite the surge in traffic, Gumtala noted the lack of basic public transport connectivity, urging the Punjab government to prioritize direct access to the airport rather than expanding services to Delhi Airport.
