Six Punjab University Vice-Chancellors inaugurate new campus of JGND Punjab State Open University

Patiala (Punjab), July 17, 2026: Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala, officially commenced its first academic session at its newly established campus at Mohindra Kothi near Fountain Chowk on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the university's expansion.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice-Chancellors of six leading universities in Punjab, along with renowned American jurist and philanthropist S. Jaspreet Singh Attorney, highlighting the growing importance of open and flexible education in the state.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU, said the university is the only state institution dedicated to extending quality higher education across the entire length and breadth of Punjab. He said the new campus would strengthen the university's mission of making education accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, and the founding Vice-Chancellor of JGND PSOU, said the future belongs to open and distance learning as modern society increasingly embraces flexible and online education models.
Chief Guest S. Jaspreet Singh Attorney said the Punjabi diaspora remains deeply connected to its roots and is keen to partner with educational institutions to contribute to the development and empowerment of Punjab's youth.
Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, congratulated the university on its new campus and praised the leadership and vision of Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh in advancing the institution.
Extending his best wishes, Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala, reaffirmed his continued support for JGND PSOU and its academic initiatives.
Similarly, Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, appreciated the university's academic growth, particularly the introduction of law-related programmes in the current academic session.
In a major philanthropic announcement, Prof. (Dr.) Sarbjinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Sunny Oberoi Vivek Sadan Futuristic University, Sri Anandpur Sahib, pledged that his university would bear the full educational expenses of 100 economically disadvantaged students enrolling at JGND PSOU.
The event was attended by the families of the visiting Vice-Chancellors, international delegates, faculty members and senior university officials, including Dr. Kuldeep Walia, Director, CIQA; Dr. Amitoj Singh, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs); Dr. Navleen Multani, Associate Dean (Research); Dr. Sulakshana, Associate Dean (Student Welfare); and Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Public Relations Officer, JGND PSOU.
