DUSU Polls: Delhi University bans printed posters, banners
New Delhi, July 17, 2026 (ANI): The University of Delhi has issued a comprehensive set of guidelines for the conduct of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Elections 2026, reiterating a strict ban on printed campaign material and measures to ensure free, fair and environmentally responsible elections.
The guidelines were discussed during a meeting chaired by Delhi University Proctor Prof. Manoj Kumar Singh with DUSU office-bearers and representatives of various student organisations at the Proctor’s Office on Thursday.
According to an official release, Prof. Singh urged all student representatives to adhere to the election protocols framed in accordance with the directions of the Delhi High Court and the Lyngdoh Committee.
The university has prohibited the defacement of public property in and around the campus. Printed and digital billboards, banners, flex posters and other printed campaign materials have been completely banned. Candidates will only be permitted to display handmade posters on designated “Walls of Democracy”, while block printing and spray painting on walls have also been prohibited.
The administration also clarified that no flex posters can be displayed on Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) advertisement boards. The Proctor’s Office said it would inform the MCD Commissioner if any violations are detected.
As part of the campaign restrictions, candidates have been barred from displaying stickers carrying their names on cars, buses, jeeps, auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws or any other vehicles. Each candidate will be allowed to use only five cars for campaigning, while the use of tractors, JCB machines or animals has been strictly prohibited. Vehicles with tinted windows or concealed registration plates will not be permitted.
The university further warned that unauthorised vehicles parked on the campus would be challaned or towed away in coordination with the Delhi Traffic Police.
The guidelines also prohibit the distribution of gifts, souvenirs, umbrellas, canopies or any promotional material carrying a candidate’s name. The university cautioned that violation of these rules could lead to cancellation of the candidate’s nomination.
The Proctor also directed that organisers must give prior intimation before holding public meetings to avoid scheduling conflicts, traffic congestion and law-and-order issues on the campus.
For election campaigning inside colleges, only five students will be allowed to campaign at a time. In girls’ college hostels, campaigning will be restricted exclusively to female students.
The university said representatives of all student organisations assured the administration of their full cooperation in ensuring peaceful and orderly elections. The guidelines will also be communicated to college authorities, while the Model Code of Conduct for the DUSU elections remains in force.
