Twitter suspends account of farmer activist against on GOI request
New Delhi, February 10, 2021: The social media giant Twitter has once again suspended the Twitter account of pro-farmer activist Manik Goyal on a request made by the Government of India.
Manik Goyal has been campaigning for farmers through his popular Twitter handle Tractor2Twitter.
Following the suspension of his account for the second time this month, Goyal shared the written communication that he received from Twitter.
“In the interest of transparency, we are writing to inform you that Twitter has a request from the Government of India, regarding your Twitter account @TheManikGoyal, that claims the following content violates Indian law (s),” read the email communiqué sent by Twitter to Goyal.
“In order to comply with Twitter’s obligations under India’s local laws, we have withheld this content in India, the content remains unavailable elsewhere,” Twitter further stated.
In an email, Twitter also shared a screenshot of Goyal Tweet that led to the suspension of his account.
“In Rajya Sabha, Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar says protest over farm laws are only limited to Punjab,” read the post of Manik that he wrote following Tomar’s address in Rajya Sabha last week.
It is to be mentioned that Goyal’s social media handle was among the 250 accounts that were withheld by Twitter on the direction of the Indian government last week and later activated.
