Jalandhar (Punjab), July 3, 2025: In a significant step towards enhancing the district’s green cover, the Jalandhar Administration is all set to launch a mega plantation drive this monsoon, aiming to plant over 3.5 lakh saplings across the district.
Sharing the details, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that this year’s plantation drive will be dedicated to the 350th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, with active participation from government departments, NGOs, and the general public.
The drive, to be completed by August 15, 2025, will cover all villages, blocks, and urban wards across Jalandhar.
Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that the plantation will include a mix of shade-giving trees, fruit trees, and flowering plants, which will significantly contribute to the district’s forest cover and environmental health.
Urging citizens to actively participate in the drive, he highlighted that trees are vital in tackling the growing challenges of global warming and pollution by keeping temperatures in check and improving air quality.
“Environmental challenges can only be addressed through collective action, and mass participation in this plantation drive will ensure its success,” Dr. Aggarwal added, appealing to residents to contribute towards a greener Jalandhar for future generations.
Divisional Forest Officer Jarnail Singh Bath informed that the forest department has established multiple nurseries across the district to cater to the sapling requirements during the monsoon season.
He added that while government departments will receive plants free of cost for the drive, the general public can obtain saplings at subsidized rates to encourage maximum participation. The administration’s initiative is poised to make Jalandhar greener while fostering community responsibility towards environmental conservation.
