CGST Chandigarh and Panchkula organize cyclothon to celebrate 8 years of GST

Chandigarh, May 18, 2025 – To commemorate eight successful years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in India, the Central GST (CGST) Commissionerates of Chandigarh and Panchkula jointly organized Cyclothons on Sunday, drawing enthusiastic participation from nearly 200 cyclists across the Tricity region.
In Chandigarh, the Cyclothon was flagged off from the iconic Sukhna Lake by JS Negi (IRS), Chief Commissioner, CGST Chandigarh Zone, who served as the Chief Guest.
In Panchkula, the event was inaugurated by Sunder Lal (IRS), Additional Commissioner (Appeals), Panchkula, with the route starting from GST Bhawan, passing through various city sectors, and concluding at the starting point.

This initiative formed a significant part of a broader series of outreach and public awareness programs organized to mark the GST journey and boost civic engagement with one of India’s most transformative tax reforms.
The event also aligned with the "Fit India Movement", under the "Sundays on Cycle" campaign, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.Speaking on the occasion, senior officials highlighted that GST, now in its eighth year, symbolizes India’s economic unification and a simplified taxation structure. They underscored that the Cyclothon reflected a shared commitment to awareness, compliance, and nation-building through a transparent and efficient tax system.
Prominent officers in attendance included Ravneet Singh Khurana, Additional Commissioner, CGST Chandigarh, and Dr. Manjot Kaur (IRS), Additional Commissioner, CGST Panchkula, among others.
The event served as a prelude to the upcoming GST Day celebrations on July 1, reinforcing the spirit of unity and progressive reform that GST represents in India's fiscal landscape.
