Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab hosts National Convention on 'India’s Vision 2047'

Nawanshahr (Punjab), February 16, 2025: Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab (LTSU) organized the National Convention of ISTE on 13th-14th February 2025 focused on shaping India's skilled workforce to meet global shortages of skilled manpower.
The event, themed “Vision 2047: Transforming the Education System for Making India the Skill Capital of the World,” brought together policymakers, academicians, industry leaders and students to discuss strategies for aligning education with global industry demands.
Inaugurating the convention, S. Harpal Singh Cheema, Finance Minister, emphasized the urgent need to transform the education system through skill-based learning. He praised LTSU Punjab for its significant role in empowering the youth of Punjab and India with industry-relevant skills.
Addressing the gathering virtually, Dr. V.K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog ((in the rank of Union Minister of State), Government of India, underlined the importance of a robust educational framework in driving national economic growth. He emphasized that aligning education systems with global standards is key to empowering Indian youth for international success. Dr.Paul also presided over the VC’s conclave.
Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, discussed AICTE’s initiatives in improving technical education policies to bridge the skills gap in India. He appreciated the efforts of LTSU in bringing all stakeholders at one platform.He encouraged universities to focus on skill development and introduce new models and programs by remaining within the appropriate frameworks.
Delivering the welcome address and setting the context for the convention, Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Chancellor, LTSU Punjab highlighted the participation of over 5,000 delegates, including Vice-Chancellors from various universities of India, faculty members, and students from across the country.
He stressed the need for integrating skill-based education into mainstream learning to develop a workforce equipped for the future.
Dr. Pratapsinh K Desai, President, ISTE, highlighted the necessity of collaboration between academic institutions and industry partners to ensure students are equipped with the skills required in emerging markets. He reinforced ISTE’s commitment to fostering excellence in technical education and professional development.
Prominent industry leaders also shared insights on the evolving educational landscape. Mr. Sanjeev Mehta, Advisor & Head Program Development, IBM elaborated on the need for technology-driven learning approaches to prepare students for the future job market.
Pawan Bagheria, President, Global Human Resources, IT & Administration, Education at Tata Technologies, addressed the increasing demand for skilled professionals and the importance of aligning curricula with industry needs. The convention featured a prestigious Awards Ceremony, where ISTE Fellow Awards were presented by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.
Distinguished professionals received Honorary Fellow Awards for their contributions to technical education and skill development.
Honorees included Dr. Atul Vyas, Registrar, IIT New Delhi, Dr. Rajul K. Gajjar, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, Dr. Sudarsha Kumar, Professor, Aerospace Engineering, IIT Mumbai, Prof. Pawan Panjwai, Managing Director & Head of Engineering, BNY Chennai, and Dr. C.K. Subbaraya, Registrar, Adichunchanagiri University, Nagara, Karnataka.
A key highlight of the convention was a series of specialized conclaves, including the Vice Chancellor’s Conclave, which focused on reversing brain drain by fostering global workforce development through strategic university collaboration, the Faculty Conclave which explored interdisciplinary education as a means to empower communities and promote sustainability, and the Students’ Conclave, which featured project exhibitions, poster presentations, and the Educator Conclave, in which Principals of various schools of the region gathered to discuss future skilling needs at the school-level education to boost employment.
The event also showcased several engaging activities, including a National Ideathon, fostering technological innovation, the cultural competitions celebrating India's diversity, exhibitions displaying cutting-edge projects, industry trends, and publications, and a Grand Cultural Evening featuring vibrant performances by students from various States.
The ISTE National Convention and Yuva Kaushal Utsav 2025 successfully laid the foundation for actionable strategies to strengthen academic-industry partnerships, integrate interdisciplinary education, and leverage advanced technologies.
This milestone event will play a crucial role in realizing India’s Vision 2047, transforming the nation into a global hub of skilled professionals.
