7-day training program on Precision Agriculture kick-starts at PAU

Ludhiana (Punjab), February 18, 2025: A seven-day training program on “Precision Agriculture Technology including Greenhouses Management” kick-started in the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the aegis of the National Committee on Precision Agriculture and Horticulture (NCPAH), New Delhi.
Farmers from Punjab and other states are attending the training programme which is being conducted by the Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC), Ludhiana.
The chief guest Dr Sarbjit Singh Sooch, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (Officiating), highlighted the role of precision agricultural technologies in enhancing productivity.
He urged the farmers to seize an opportunity to learn and implement precision agricultural technologies, highlighting their potential to revolutionize farming practices and boost yields sustainably.
Dr Nilesh Biwalkar, Principal Investigator (PFDC, Ludhiana), shared that this program has been designed to provide farmers with the technical expertise to implement advanced micro irrigation techniques.
The training will cover key topics such as the PFDC scheme, PMKY’s Per Drop More Crop initiative, drip irrigation design, fertigation scheduling, and soilless cultivation, he informed.
Additionally, participants will gain insights into automated irrigation systems, irrigation sensors, and water management, he added.
Practical sessions will include hands-on training, field visits focusing on system maintenance, and hydroponic system demonstrations, he said.The program will also address nursery management, pest control in greenhouse farming, and best practices for efficient irrigation, he added.
While presenting the outlines of the training program, Dr JP Singh, Head, the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, threw light on the importance of precision agricultural technologies and the need to adopt it for agricultural sustainability.
Dr Jugraj Singh, Senior Scientist, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, welcomed the participants and gave an overview of the PFDC and training program. Later, Dr Biwalkar proposed a vote of thanks.
