16,54,859 voters to elect MP for Ferozepur Lok Sabha-2024 constituency
Among 1902 booths, 651 ‘sensitive’, 23 ‘very sensitive’
Ferozepur, March 21, 2024: All arrangements relating to the coming Lok Sabha elections on June 1 in Punjab, are intact and so far as the Ferozepur constituency is concerned, this time the voting target taken is to cross 85 per cent as the state target of 75 per cent has already been achieved in the Assembly elections.
In Ferozepur Lok Sabha, there are 9 constituencies - 76-Ferozepur City, 77-Ferozepur Rural, 78-Guruharsahai, 79-Jalalabad, 80-Fazilka, 81-Abohar, 82-Balluana, 85-Malout and 86-Muktsar. In total, there are 16,54,859 voters, who will elect one Member of Parliament from the Ferozepur constituency.
During the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Sukhbir Singh Badal won the MP elections as a SAD candidate by securing 6,33,427 votes defeating Sher Singh Ghubaya, a candidate of Indian National Congress. The other candidates in the row were Harjinder Singh Kaka Sran of AAP who got 31,872 votes, Hans Raj Jossan 26,128 and 14,891 NOTA (None of the above) votes were polled. This time, so far none of the political parties have announced their candidate for Lok Sabha 2024 elections but there are around 14 claimants for MP from leading parties – BJP, Congress, SAD and AAP.
With the polling schedule declared by the Election Commission of India, among 1902 booths, 652 ‘sensitive’, and 23 ‘very sensitive’ were declared in Punjab’s Ferozepur parliamentary constituency where the polling will take place on June 1.
For the conduct of Lok Sabha elections as independent, impartial and transparent and to stop the violation of the Model Code of Conduct, as per the directions of the Election Commission, it has been decided to get webcasting at all the polling stations with the provision of access at the district headquarter and CEO Punjab office and at the polling locations, Micro Observers will also be deployed.
As per the information, there are 1902 polling booths in the Ferozepur constituency, out of which 651 have been declared as sensitive and 23 as very sensitive which comes to more than 34 per cent of the total polling stations.
This time, the maximum 251 polling stations are in Assembly constituency Jalalabad. In all the 9 constituencies, Ferozepur Urban has polling stations/locations 211/117 locations, Ferozepur Rural 241/183, Guruharsahai 218/167, Jalalabad 251/167, Fazilka 212/132, Abohar 117/132, Balluana 189/106, Sri Muktsar Sahib 213/108 and Malout 190/107.
To maintain law and order given Lok Sabha elections, Flag Marches are also being carried out to inculcate the feeling of security among the people, while 25 companies of para-military forces are also being deployed. At all the entry points, the police along with the para-military forces are checking the vehicles at entry points in the city.
