Fazilka, March 28, 2024: The Election Commission is making all efforts for fair and peaceful Lok Sabha elections. A strict blockade has been imposed on the inter-state borders to prevent interference in the elections by anti-social elements from neighbouring states. Hi-tech checkpoints have been established on major roads connecting Rajasthan. Deputy Commissioner Dr Senu Duggal and SSP Dr. Pragya Jain paid a surprise visit to one such hi-tech checkpoint last night.
DC and SSP arrived suddenly to check the readiness of security forces and check points on the road connecting to Rajasthan at Abohar Hanumangarh Road near the village Rajpura. SP Karanveer Sinandgh and DSP Sukhwinder Singh were also present on this occasion.
DC Dr Duggal said that during the elections, often the sarcastic elements go to the neighbouring state by committing a crime or there is a fear of drugs, money etc. coming from the neighbouring states to influence the voters. That is why strict vigilance is being kept on the 48 km long border of Fazilka district with Rajasthan so that no anti-social element can escape here and there, she added.
She further said that 12 flying squads are continuously monitoring the district and these vehicles are equipped with live cameras and their video feed is being monitored live by the Election Commission at sub-division, district and Chandigarh levels. We also inspected the buses and other vehicles under their supervision and inspected the arrangements made by the police here.
SSP Dr. Pragya Jain said that on the borders with Rajasthan, where hi-tech checkpoints have been installed on main roads, 24 other small roads, and unpaved roads have also been blocked and these checkpoints are continuously monitored by CCTV cameras. She said that central security forces have also arrived in the district and joint operations are being conducted along with arranging the flag march by the police as confidence-building measures. A strategy has been drawn up by holding meetings with the Rajasthan Police for better coordination at the inter-state level so that no criminal can go to the other side after committing a crime. All vehicles are being searched at all the inter-state Check Points and more than 700 weapons have been deposited with the police in the last three days besides 10 POs have been arrested and 15 cases have been registered regarding recovery of drugs etc.
