HC Advocate raises questions on eligibility of SP in Police district Dabwali ; writes to Chief Election Commissioner

Chandigarh, March 30, 2024: Hemant Kumar, Advocate in Punjab and Haryana High Court has written to the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and raised questions on the eligibility of the Superintendent of Police (SP) posted in police district Dabwali of Sirsa district.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stating that the incumbent Superintendent of Police (SP) posted in Dabwali town in Sirsa of Haryana does not belong to the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre.
"Pertinent that over a week ago on 21 March 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) vide Press Note bearing No. ECI/PN/29/2024 (Copy attached) while ordering the transfer of 8 non-IPS officers in the rank of SP/SSP in the States of Gujarat, Odisha & Punjab reiterated that the post of SP in a district is encoded for officers from IPS. It is also noteworthy to mention here that however in one other Police District viz. Hansi in Hisar of Haryana, an IPS officer has been posted as SP therein," wrote Hemant Kumar.
"It is highly hoped that your good self would wisely take an urgent call to intervene in this matter and make a conscious and wise decision to ensure the posting of a suitable IPS officer as SP in Dabwali Police District in Sirsa of Haryana," the letter further read.
