Chandigarh, February 26,2019: Indian Air Force on Tuesday conducted air strike in Balakot area of Pakistan reportedly killing over 200-300 terrorists.
Claimed to be response to the suicide attack on a CRPF convoy killing over 40 jawans in Pulwama, the air strike took place in wee hours of Tuesday.
Balakot is one of the main cities of Mansehra District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Balakot is around 190 km away from Pakistan's capital Islamabad and is infamous for having several terror training camps of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The area falls about 50 km from the LoC and 81 km away from Uri, Jammu and Kashmir.
It serves as the chief city of Balakot Tehsil, which is the largest Tehsil of Mansehra District. It has also a Union Council and administers the many surrounding smaller towns and villages.
Earlier there was confusion regarding strike in Balakot as a village with similar name, Balakote, is also located along Line of Control in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Check location at map.
