Jalandhar, February 26, 2019: In a major step aimed at streamlining the movement of traffic on national highway number one between PAP Chowk and Rama Mandi, the Army authorities today started the work for shifting of tanks from near the Vajra Dwar after the Jalandhar administration had flagged the issue with them.
The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar had recently called on the Commanding Officer of the Vajra Core and urged him to expedite the work of removal of the tanks from the national highway. They had apprised him that the work of construction of PAP Chowk and Rama Mandi flyover was going on in full swing but due to the presence of the tanks, the smooth flow of vehicular movement was being obstructed. The Core Commander had given his consent for the removal of tanks to both the officers during the meeting.
Subsequently, the Army authorities today started the work of shifting the tanks today morning and one of the tanks was shifted today. The remaining work would also be completed within coming days thereby giving a major reprieve to the commuters travelling on this highway.
Pertinently, the work on this ambitious project had been hanging in fire since last more than eight years. The National Highway was all the more important for the commuters travelling from Delhi to Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Jammu via Jalandhar to and fro. Apart from giving respite to commuters on National highway, once completed this project would also streamline the traffic flow within the city thereby giving much respite to the people.
