NGOs urge school heads to check rooms for trapped birds before summer vacation
Ferozepur, Mat 26, 2025: As schools and educational institutions prepare to close for the summer break, from 2nd June to 30th June, several NGOs and environmental activists are urging school heads to carefully inspect all rooms to ensure that no birds are left trapped inside classrooms or buildings.
The appeal, spearheaded by Pardeep Dhawan, President, Senior Citizens Forum, Shelly, Founder, Ferozepur Foundation, Deepak Sharma, Founder Mayank Foundation, Victor Environmentalist and Social Worker Vipul Narang highlighted the distressing reality that birds often enter school buildings and may unknowingly be locked in for weeks without food or water. “A small act of care can save a life,” the message states.
“Live and let live. Be kind to all living beings,” the appeal reads, encouraging school authorities to conduct a final check of all rooms, including classrooms, halls, and storerooms, before locking up.
NGOs recommend a simple inspection of each classroom and corridor before locking up for the holidays and suggest keeping a few windows slightly open, if safe, to allow any accidentally trapped birds a chance to escape. They also urged the Education Department to issue directions in this regard to all school heads.
