Fatehgarh Sahib. May 24, 2019: Dr. Amar Singh IAS (Retd) won the Fatehgarh Sahib(R) loak Sabha seat by defeating Darbara Singh Guru of SAD (B) IAS( Retd) by a margin of 93571 votes. He polled 410171 votes, whereas Darbara Singh Guru polled 316613votes. Manwinder Singh Giaspura PDA candidate performed excellently and remained third by getting 141914 votes, whereas AAP candidate Bandeep Singh Dullo son of senior Congress leader Samsher Singh Dullo MP got only 62380 votes.
From the very first round Congress candidate Dr. Amar Singh got the lead and he continued to consolidate the lead. He led in eight assembly constituencies out of nine falling in the loak Sabha seat and lost only in Sahnewal constituency. In Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency he won by 18516 votes, in Bassi Pathana by 9551 votes, in Amloh by11693 votes, in Amargarh by 6820 votes, in Khanna by 7973 votes, in Payal by 11075 votes, in Samrala by 4761votes, in Raikot by 29408 votes and lost in Sahnewal by 6226 votes.
The highest margin of Congress was of 29408 votes from Raikot Assembly constituency from where Dr. Amar Singh had lost in Assembly, whereas Darbara Singh Guru had lost the Assembly elections from Bassi Pathana and again lost from Bassi Pathana his constituency by 9551 votes in Parliament.
The counting process took a long time though counting rounds were completed by 2PM, but the results could not be complied till late night and journalists were kept waiting for long.
He thanked the voters for reposing faith in him and assured that he will come true to their expectations and strive hard for the development of the constituency. He thanked all the Congress MLAs, workers and leaders who worked for his victory.
