DC Ferozepur warns people not to share fake data on social media about polling
Ferozepur, May 25, 2019: The DEO-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur taking serious note of a post on Facebook, citing fake data, for the general elections in Ferozepur constituency, without verifying the facts, have reported the matter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab for further action.
In a letter to CEO, Chandigarh, Returning Officer has said, a Fake photo is uploaded on Facebook by someone with wrong facts about polling in 10-Ferozepur PC . The person has claimed that there is 11,37,000 votes (Electors) in the Parliament Constituency but there is 16,13,842 general and 4577 Service Electors (Total 16,18,419 Electors).
The person claimed that 11,72,033 votes poled in favour of candidates whereas the total voters voted in PC is 11,72,801 including 3589 Postal allot and 2495 service.
Chander Gaind DEO-Cum-DC said, the general elections in Ferozepur have been conducted in a very fair and transparent manner and there had been no untoward incident. The matter of fake data has been reported to higher authorities with actual data.
Social media is known to perpetuate and magnify existing biases and create new ones and to curb this menace, the police have been asked to locate the person to bring on surface the background and motive behind this move to initiate further action against him, he added.
He, however, warned the people not to indulge in such activities otherwise they will have to face the consequences, as per the law.
