Punjab CM requests agitating farmers to lift dharna from Punjab, continue in Delhi & Haryana
Chandigarh, September 13, 2021: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh urged the agitating farmers to lift dharna from several locations in Punjab while continuing their dharna in Delhi borders and Haryana if needed to pressurize the government.
He told the agitating farmers that with the increase in population in the state, there is a need for development. Captain shared that presently the farmers have staged a dharna in around 113 locations.
“This is only stalling the economic development of the state. I request the farmers to continue their agitation in Delhi or Haryana but sitting in Punjab on dharna will be of no use as we are always with the farmers. This is only stalling the economic development of the state,” he added.
CM further criticized Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for not standing up for the farmers.
Captain said that to oppose the farm bills, he has called an all-party meeting. He said that except Akali, all party representatives were present in the meeting.
He said the SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal was the part of the cabinet that passed the ordinance of three farm bills. Similarly, Parkash Badal said on television that there are is problems with the farm bills.
“They only made the U-turn after witnessing a strong resistance from the farmers' body of the political parties who are in support of the bills. Now, they are trying to approach farmers' bodies but no one pays attention to them,” he added.
“Commenting on repealing the farm bills, Captain said that the Constitution of India has been amended 127 times in view of the needs of the people, why can't it be amended 128th time. Sit the Parliament and bring the amendment but the union government is stubborn about it,” he added
“Punjab is one state that has always stood up for the farmers’ rights and is still supporting them in every way possible. If the Punjab government had imposed any form of resistance to the movement, a large number of farmers would not have assembled at the Singhu and Tikri border,” he further added.
The captain said that his government left no stone unturned to help the farmers.
"We even brought their own farm bill in the assembly but the Governor did not give it the clearance," he added.
