SAD appeals to affected farmers to support protest march to CM’s residence
(To protest against unjust awards being given to farmers for land acquired under the Bharat Mala project)
Chandigarh, September 28, 2021: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today appealed to farmers whose lands are being unjustly acquired at ridiculously low rates by the Congress government to support the SAD’s Protest March to the chief minister’s residence tomorrow.
Giving details of the March, SAD senior vice president Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said party workers would assemble at Gurdwara Amb Sahib at Mohali tomorrow morning and would proceed to the chief minister’s residence in Chandigarh from there.
“The purpose is to highlight the injustice being done to two lakh farmers across nineteen districts of the State whose lands are being acquired for peanuts for various road projects under the Bharat Mala project”.
Dr. Daljit Cheema said the SAD on its part had held a meeting with representatives of the Punjab Pradesh Road Kisan Sangharsh Committee which has been spearheading the movement to secure fair compensation for the affected farmers.
“The party has also met farmers whose lands have been acquired at very low rates. We are of the firm belief that there is no justification for this and the party will launch a Statewide agitation to ensure farmers get a fair price for their land as they did earlier during the erstwhile SAD led government”.
The SAD leader said it was condemnable that even though the Sangharsh Committee had been agitating for fair compensation since the last year, the Congress government had refused to revise the land awards.
He said it was unfortunate that the farmers were unable to secure a just award for their lands despite the addition of the multiplier factor, hundred percent solatium, and even additional compensation.
“The government should revise the awards immediately or be ready to face an even more vigorous agitation on this issue”, Dr. Cheema added. EOM
