KMSC postpones ‘rail roko’ protest, gives 20-days’ time to solve farmers’ demands
Ferozepur, September 30, 2021: Kissan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) which has earlier planned the protest through the ‘rail roko’ programme from today, postponed giving 20-days’ time to the government to solve farmers demands failing the ‘rail-roko’ movement will start will again be started in the last week of October 2021.
Farmers have been protesting at different sites since November 26 last year against the three enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Farmers leaders further said some of the demands of the farmers have been agreed upon like waiving off of arrears of power bills and further enhancing the limit of free power from 1 kw to 2 kw besides giving compensation to victim’s families, giving jobs to one family member and cancellation of police and railway cases against the farmers, sugarcane arrears within ten days with notification of Rs.360. Above all, the power agreements will also be cancelled and cheap power tariff will be announced and procurement of wheat will be at the last years’ pattern.
Speaking on the occasion State Vice President, Jasbir Singh Pidhi District President Inderjit Singh Bath and District Secretary Sahib Singh Dineke said, the Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhinder Singh Randhawa had assured to solve the farmers' problems within 20-days and a meeting will be arranged with the Chief Minister, Punjab.
The farmer leaders made it clear that in case the demands of the farmers not are accepted within this period, the ‘rail roko’ protest programme will be started in the last week of October 2021.
