Railways to demolition old foot bridges for safety of passengers using lockdown period
Ferozepur, April 28, 2020: The Ferozepur rail division has started demotion of old food bridges keeping in view the safety of the passengers, said Rajesh Aggarwal, DRM Ferozepur.
DRM said, it was a very specific and difficult plan to demolish the old closed passenger bridges (one span of four to seven tons weighing 8 spans and 14 to 20 meters in length) at Ludhiana railway station on 19 lines and 7 passenger platforms, has been going on since 2014.
He said, this place is densely surrounded by several permanent structures like two adjacent pedestrian bridges, high capacity electrification portals, passenger sheds all over the platform, main station building, water supply lines. For which closure of all lines for a long period was part of a much larger action plan.
To start with, the Engineering Department of Ferozepur Division along with Mechanical, TRD Department, Operations, Electricity, Telecom Departments have started the work of breaking this old dilapidated passenger bridge from 27.04.2020 using the lockdown period.
The work of toppling this pair of old passenger bridges will be completed in 8 days by taking a traffic block of 8-10 hours daily by all departments in Ludhiana Yard. For this 140-ton railway crane is being used every day.
Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal informed that the CRS (Commissioner of Railway Safety) approval has been taken to carry out this work and this will be a major achievement for passenger safety. Along with this, it has also been kept in mind that along with following social distance during work, employees and laborers should be used sanitizers, masks and gloves etc. in view of the lockdown period going in the wake of coronavirus threat.
