Chandigarh, June 18, 2020: Youth Akali Dal (YAD) President Parambans Singh Romana today appealed to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to offer a Rs one crore compensation as well as a State civil service job or that of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Punjab Police Service to the next of kin of the four soldiers who were martyred in Ladakh while countering Chinese aggression.
In a statement here, the YAD President said he was confident the chief minister would rise to the occasion and set a stellar example which could be followed across the country. “This would be the biggest recognition to the ultimate sacrifice made by the four soldiers - including two Naib Subedars Mandeep Singh and Satnam Singh and two Sepoys - Gurbinder Singh and Gurtej Singh for their motherland. These four brave hearts gave up their lives defending our borders. We need to send across a clear message to all servicemen that their State is with them and will accord them the highest respect possible”.
Mr Parambans Romana said the government should not err on this account. “Already a wrong message was sent to the youth by making an over age grand-son of former chief minister Beant Singh a Deputy Superintendent of Police. This mistake should be rectified by giving this post to the next of kin of our martyrs who are most deserving for this honour. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is committed to support this pro-martyr step”, the YAD President added.
