Haryana Police seizes 5200 boxes of illicit liquor worth Rs 3 Cr during lockdown

Chandigarh, May 2, 2020: In a major crackdown, Haryana Police have seized 5200 boxes of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Sonipat district when the consignment was being smuggled in trucks during the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown.
Police have arrested three persons in this connection. The estimated value of seized liquor is around Rs 3 crore.
A spokesperson of Haryana Police said that arrested accused have been identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of Ajrabar, district Patiala, Balwinder Singh and Devender Singh of Mubarakpur and Dera Bassi in Mohali district of Punjab.
A team of Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana police conducted the raid following a secret input.
After getting the input from informer about the illegal transpiration of liquor in trucks parked at Hans Dhaba in Murthal, the STF team present on the GT Road near, Murthal immediately raided the location and seized the entire illegal consignment of the IMFL from different trucks.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized liquor was being illegally transported from Derabassi of Mohali district in Punjab for supply in different parts of Delhi.
A case under relevant sections of the Excise Act had been registered against the accused at Murthal Police Station and further investigation is under progress.
