SAS Nagar, August 31, 2020: The death anniversary of 12th Chief Minister of Punjab was marked by observing two-minute silence and paying floral tributes at Beant Singh Memorial, Chandigarh.
The annual ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan’ to mark the day was not organized due to outbreak of coronavirus.
On behalf of Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab who is in home quarantine, Cabinet Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu paid homage to the late Chief Minister.
Recalling S. Beant Singh’s sacrifice for Punjab and its people, Mr Sidhu said that. “His contribution to peace and harmony in the state would forever remain etched in the hearts and minds of the people”. His assassination was a dark day in the state's history, but his sacrifice paved the way for freedom from terrorism, he said.
Recalling memories of his grandfather, Gurkirat Singh Kotli MLA Khanna said Sardar Beant Singh sacrificed his life for the restoration of peace and communal harmony in the state of Punjab and his entire family will life-long remain steadfast to the cause. He said under Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab sustained development of the state would be ushered along with maintaining peace and harmony.
A somber event yet full of reverence was attended by members of S. Beant Singh's family, including Ravneet Singh Bittu , MP. MLAs from Bassi Pathana and Payal, former Minister Malkit Singh Dakha also paid tributes.
Pertinently, Sardar Beant Singh was assassinated in a bomb blast on this day in 1995.
