No permanent structures to be constructed at Delhi Borders, Kisan Morcha clarifies
Singhu Border (Delhi), March 14, 2021:
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) clarified that no permanent structures would be constructed at the protest sites by the agitating farmers. A meeting held on Friday between 32 Punjab Farmer Unions decided that protestors should not build any permanent structures (‘pucca houses') at the major protest sites, including Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders. The decision was taken against the backdrop of some such structures coming up at the agitation sites.
Several SKM leaders went to West Bengal to campaign in support of farmers' on-going agitation against three farm laws to urge voters there not to vote for the anti-farmer BJP. Today, the SKM delegation addressed Mahapanchayats in Singur and Asansol in the state.
The SKM said through a statement that out of the 151 farmers arrested in various FIRs except those connected with republic day violence, 147 have been released on bail so far. Many of these released farmers are back at the protest sites. The release of four more farmers (one from Punjab and three from Haryana) is awaited. In addition to this, Ranjit Singh of Punjab, who was arrested on January 29 2021, will file his bail plea in the High Court again as the court rejected his previous plea.
The SKM also believed that after a debate in the United Kingdom's House of Commons on the farmers' issue, it could be the House of Representatives in Australia that could pick up a petition that the Petitions Committee of the Parliament has cleared. The SKM also stated that the ‘Kishan Adhikar Yatra’ in Odisha reached Gunupur in Rayagada district and received a huge welcome. Meanwhile, seven ‘Kisan Yatras’ on seven ‘Kisan Raths’ travel throughout Bihar through seven different routes for the fourth day on Sunday.
Today, a theatre group called "The P{art}icle Collective" enacted a play called "Dana Dana Inquilab" at the Singhu Border stage. This play incorporated many real aspects of the farmers' movement.
On Sunday, it was the ninth day of the Kisan Majdoor Jagriti Yatra that started from Uttarakhand. The SKM said the Yatra started from Khutar in Shahjahanpur district travelled 600 kilometres so far. It passed through around 300 villages and 20 cities, they said.
Meanwhile, the farmers led by BKU and AIKMS assembled in large numbers on Sunday to welcome farmer leader Rakesh Tikait at the Harro toll plaza on Allahabad Rewa road.
