Mohali, March 26, 2021:
A massive response to ‘Bharat Bandh’ call was seen in Mohali district today as the farmers blocked all the major roads throughout the day. The localities laid blockade on several major points of roads to stop the movement of vehicles, except for ambulances and essential services, towards the major cities.
To mark the completion of four months of Kisan Morcha in Delhi, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) had asked the farmers of India to observe March 26 as ‘Bharat Bandh’.
Chandigarh-Ludhiana highway remains block:
Local farmers of Kharar area today blocked the major Chandigarh-Ludhiana at multiple points. A large number of children, women, youth, and elderly took part in the Bandh program by staging 'dharnas' on roads. The 'road block' of the farmers was started at 6 am today and remained to continue till 6 pm, as decided by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha. They chanted various slogans against the central government for passing three farm laws. Except for ambulance, emergency services, the farmers did not allow anyone to cross their blockades. The roads were completely blocked by the farmers by parking their tractors, cars, and motorcycles on them. As a result, the highway hardly witnessed any traffic today. A very few vehicles were seen on the Kharar-Landran road, which is said to be one of the busiest roads.
Markets wear deserted look:
All the markets of the city as well as Kharar remained close throughout the day. Negligible shops of main markets including Sector 70, Phase 3, Phase 7, and Phase 10, were seen open on Friday.
Heat of sun fails to dampen the farmers’ spirits:
Despite the heat of the sun, the farmers, especially the women, kept sitting on the road for hours to make the call of ‘Bharat Bandh’ a success. Various ‘langars’ were also distributed among the farmers and commuters by the villagers.
